Alfredo Paredes joins forces with EJ Victor for the first furniture collection
NEW YORK – Alfedo Paredes, who was long the creative leader of luxury brand Ralph Lauren, has teamed up with high-end manufacturer EJ Victor to launch his first furniture collection under his own name.
At the High Point market in June, Paredes’ initial launch will feature sofas, sectionals, chairs and ottomans, as well as occasional tables, dining and coffee tables, desks, shelving, console, a bar cabinet and a bed.
Evoking a cultivated bohemian spirit, the collection refers to classic European furniture but with a relaxed and contemporary American touch. Made almost entirely in the USA, the pieces are sculptural yet multifunctional, crafted from oak, maple, walnut and alder, with a unique palette of additional materials including negresco stone, black pearl stone and sea grass. Luxurious details, such as ingot fringes, woven leather and pyramidal nailhead trims, complete the collection.
This is the first furniture collection that Paredes is launching in his own eponymous studio, which he founded in 2019, after a 33-year career at Ralph Lauren as the company’s lead designer. Much like its interiors – including iconic spaces such as the Polo Bar, the Ralph Lauren Women’s and Home Flagship on Madison Avenue, the Ralph Lauren St. Germain store in Paris, and private residences from Los Cabos to Montauk to TriBeCa – this debut furniture collection is characterized by “cinematic sensibility, an inviting sense of luxury and understated sophistication,” according to an announcement for the new line.
Paredes noted that he appreciated “incredible freedom and support” from the EJ Victor team in the development of the new collection.
“I’m often drawn to antique furniture for its ability to evoke a sense of place and memory, and I wanted this collection to have a similar tone, without feeling too precious or decorative,” he said. “The pieces are imbued with a sense of history and storytelling, but through a contemporary lens, with a real emphasis on functionality.”
Partnering with EJ Victor on the development of his first standalone furniture collection was a natural fit for Paredes, who worked with the North Carolina-based manufacturer’s team for more than a decade on the design and licensing of Ralph. Lauren Home, supervised by Paredes during his tenure there.
“Alfredo’s vision for design is, quite simply, amazing,” said John Jokinen, Creative Director of EJ Victor, of the collaboration. “He combines architecture, interior design and furniture with a coherent and inspiring sensibility. Alfredo’s first solo collection for EJ Victor will only be the start of an exciting new era of fresh design for our company.
